What is immersive learning in a VR courtroom?
Immersive learning puts students inside a realistic simulation, so they learn by taking part, not just by reading. This VR courtroom works like a VR moot court: students present a case aloud, and AI judges and lawyers listen and respond in real time, turning courtroom simulation into a live, two-way hearing.
The problem: reading about a hearing is not taking part in one
Students can study legal proceedings in a classroom, but reading about a hearing is very different from standing up and taking part in one.
Realistic practice is difficult to arrange. Students need to present their case, hear questions and respond as the hearing unfolds, not just memorise the process.
What we built: a VR moot court with AI judges and lawyers
We built an immersive VR courtroom in Unity, with AI judges and lawyers that listen to students and respond during the session.
Students enter the virtual courtroom, present their case by speaking, and practise a two-way hearing. The AI characters respond, allowing the experience to unfold like a live interaction rather than a fixed video.
- Step 1:
Stage 1EnterThe student steps into the VR courtroom.
- Step 2:
Stage 2PresentThe student explains their case aloud.
- Step 3:
Stage 3RespondAI judges and lawyers listen and reply.
- Step 4:
Stage 4PractiseThe student experiences a live, two-way hearing.
The result: demonstrated at the GNLU Convocation 2026
The VR courtroom was demonstrated at the GNLU Convocation in 2026. The experience gave students a way to practise speaking and responding in a simulated courtroom, with AI characters taking part in the conversation.
- Practice through participationStudents speak and respond instead of only reading about proceedings.
- AI characters respond liveThe judges and lawyers listen and answer during the experience.
- Repeatable trainingStudents can return to the simulation for more practice.
- Demonstrated at GNLUThe project was showcased at the 2026 convocation.
Beyond the courtroom: VR training simulation for role-play
The same approach can support other role-play training scenarios where people need to practise speaking, answering questions and making decisions in a realistic setting.
